Crochet Turtle Coaster Pattern Instructions

The Shell (Main Body)

Start with your choice of Light Green or Brown yarn. This section is worked in rounds.

  • R1: Make a MR, 12 dc into the ring. [12]
  • R2: 12 dc inc. [24]
  • R3: (dc, dc inc) x 12. [36]
  • R4: (2 dc, dc inc) x 12. [48]
  • R5: (3 dc, dc inc) x 12. [60]
  • Fasten off and weave in your ends.

The Head

Switch to White yarn. You will work these rows directly into the stitches of R5 on the shell.

  • R1: Work 12 dc into the shell R5, turn. [12]
  • R2: dc dec, 8 dc, dc dec, turn. [10]
  • R3: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc, 2 tr, 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc. [10]
  • Fasten off. This specific stitch combination shapes the head.

The Feet (Make 4)

Use White yarn and work directly into R5 of the shell.

  • R1: Work 6 dc into the shell R5, turn. [6]
  • R2: 1 sc, 1 hdc, dc dec, 1 hdc, 1 sc. [5]
  • Fasten off. This creates a flat, realistic foot shape.

Important Placement Notes:

  • Leave 3 stitches between the head and the front legs.
  • Leave 5 stitches between the front legs and the back legs.
  • Leave 8 stitches between the two back legs.

Final Assembly and Details

Now that the crochet work is finished, it is time to add the personality:

  1. Eyes: Use black thread to embroider “x”-shaped eyes on Row 3 of the head.
  2. Shell Pattern: Use white thread to embroider a checkered or grid pattern onto the turtle shell.
  3. Blush: Gently apply a small amount of pink pastel blush to the cheeks for an extra cute finish.
