R16: (4 sc, dec) x 6 [30 sts]

R17: (3 sc, dec) x 6 [24 sts] — stuff firmly with polyester filling at this point.

R19: 8 dec [8 sts]

Cut yarn and fasten off. Close the opening.

Finishing the Cat

Add the 5mm safety eyes at R4-R5 of the cat’s body, spacing them 5 stitches apart.

Sew the tail to the back of the cat. Add a few extra stitches to make the tail curl slightly around the side of the cat’s body.

Use black yarn to embroider the nose between the eyes.

Embroider whiskers on both cheeks using white embroidery thread or thin yarn.

Add stripes on the head, back, and tail using black yarn.

Packing Box

Use brown (beige) yarn.

R1: MR, 8 sc [8 sts]

R2: (sc, 3 sc in same st) x 4 [16 sts]

R3: 2 sc, (3 sc in same st, 3 sc) x 3, 3 sc in same st, sc [24 sts]

R4: 3 sc, (3 sc in same st, 5 sc) x 3, 3 sc in same st, 2 sc [32 sts]

R5: 4 sc, (3 sc in same st, 7 sc) x 3, 3 sc in same st, 3 sc [40 sts]

R6: 5 sc, (3 sc in same st, 9 sc) x 3, 3 sc in same st, 4 sc [48 sts]

Note: R1-R6 form the flat square base of the box.

R7: BLO 48 dc [48 sts]

Note: Working in back loops only in R7 creates the sharp edge between the base and the walls of the box.

R8-R11: 48 dc [48 sts]

Do not cut the yarn. You will continue directly into the box lid.

Box Lid (make 4 pieces)

Divide the last round into 4 sections of 12 stitches each. Work each section separately in rows.

R1: BLO 12 dc [12 sts]

R2: ch 2, turn, 12 dc [12 sts]

Cut yarn and fasten off. Repeat for all 4 sections.

Note: These 4 flaps form the open lid of the cardboard box, giving it a realistic packing box look.
